For the Community.
By the Community

Welcome to The Water Project of Utica website!

This site serves as a hub for the Water Project of Utica, a community-led effort providing clean drinking water to Utica and other communities facing ongoing water insecurity. Here, you can find distribution information, learn more about our mission, and discover ways to support water justice in Utica and beyond.

The Water Project of Utica is a community-based initiative focused on improving access to clean, safe, and reliable water for families in Utica, Mississippi, and neighboring communities. Many residents experience water outages, low pressure, and frequent boil-water notices, making everyday life difficult, especially for elders and working families.

Our work is built around three key pillars: access, community engagement, and advocacy. We provide immediate support through free water refills and educational resources to help families meet their daily needs. We also host water justice events that bring residents together to share information, build awareness, and strengthen community involvement.

In addition to direct support, The Water Project of Utica works toward long-term solutions through advocacy efforts, including an impact report and a Water Justice Toolkit designed to educate, empower, and support policy change. Together, these efforts aim to create sustainable improvements in water access and community well-being.

Core Pillars

ACCESS

We believe clean water is a basic human right. Through this pillar, we are committed to helping 75 families gain access to safe, clean drinking water and essential hydration resources. Our goal is to support underserved communities by providing relief, promoting water safety, and improving overall health and wellness.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Change happens when communities come together. Our Community Engagement pillar focuses on educating, connecting, and empowering residents through outreach events, workshops, and awareness campaigns centered on water justice and public health. By creating spaces for collaboration and conversation, we aim to inspire collective action and strengthen community impact.

ADVOCACY

Our Advocacy pillar focuses on creating long-term change through education, storytelling, and policy awareness. Through initiatives like our annual Impact Report and Water Justice Toolkit, we work to amplify community voices, raise awareness about water inequities, and encourage solutions that promote environmental justice and equitable access for all.

Community Survey

The Water Project of Utica is committed to ensuring that our work reflects the real experiences and needs of our community. To help guide our efforts, we invite residents to participate in a voluntary community survey.

Your feedback will help us:

  • Better understand water-related challenges facing residents

  • Identify community needs and priorities

  • Improve future water distribution efforts

  • Inform advocacy, education, and resource development

  • Share accurate community data with partners and funders
